Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1)
Insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1) is also called Somatomedin-C. It’s an important marker for overall health and healthy aging since it’s an indicator of the amount of growth hormone (GH) in the body.
Decreased GH is implicated in anxiety, osteoporosis, heart disease, exercise intolerance, loss of muscle (lean body mass), decreased muscle strength, decreased red blood cell volume, depression, fatigue/listlessness, impaired self control, increased fat (especially abdominal fat), low self-esteem, problems sweating, shorter life expectancy, sleep disturbances, social isolation and thin, dry skin.
